How do I know if my iPhone is unlocked?

I had a iPhone 6s that I used with h20 (An AT&T based mvno), and when I got my battery replaced my phone had failed in repair and I had received a brand new iPhone 6s. It still says that it's carrier is att on the about page. How do I know if my phone is capable of running with T-Mobile?

If your iPhone 6s was unlocked before the repair and the repair failed where Apple replaced your phone, your old IMEI is linked to your new IMEI carrying the unlock from old phone to new phone.

However, Apple will not/can not give you an unlocked iPhone if your previous phone was locked to AT&T because the IMEI is still linked to the new IMEI carrying the carrier settings telling if the iPhone should lock to AT&T or unlock to any carrier.

If it's a new phone that OP received, the IMEI is not the same, and will require an unlock again. Same with TMobile customers.

Two ways without a T-Mobile SIM card:

Call T-Mobile and ask us to check the IMEI number in the iPhone Activation Status tool in Grand Central.
Call Apple and ask them the check the activation status of the IMEI (if you do this, make sure to ask for current and next activation status/policy)

Bestbuy or Walmart sells Tracfone SIM with all 4 providers at $0.99. Or go to the T-Mo store, let employee help you out.
